Tradition, creativity and innovation
The threads of the Alentejo Blanket are woven together with the lines of our own history, carrying the identity of our land. With medieval origins, the techniques of its production, the equipment used, and its decorative motifs have remained virtually unchanged to this day—keeping alive a centuries-old tradition, passed down from generation to generation.
Wanting to preserve and perpetuate this heritage, we chose the Alentejo Blanket as an exclusive detail of our collections—bringing a legacy of the past into contemporary fashion.
At Fabricaal, in Reguengos de Monsaraz, from weaving to the finished product, the entire process is carried out locally, on handcrafted wooden looms with manual cranks, some more than a century old—a true “living museum” of Alentejo blankets.
In preserving this unique form of expression, we selected for our pieces one of the patterns that symbolizes elements of Nature: the espigas (ears of wheat), evoking the golden fields of wheat and other cereals that cover the Alentejo, also bearing a symbolic connection to water.
Special emphasis goes to the primordial material from which they are made: wool—Portuguese wool—in its natural, undyed colors: cru (raw) and russo (brownish), characteristic of the most primitive blankets from the pastoral tradition.
